F.A.Q
When are tryouts?
Tryouts are typically held in October at Turner-Ashby after the regular season has finished for high school volleyball. We post the dates on Facebook a few weeks leading up to try-outs.
What are uniform requirements?
Players jerseys are included with their club fee. All players must wear black bottoms (any brand, leggings or spandex shorts are okay) and can wear shoes/socks of their choosing.
When does the season start and end?
Each team varies but the typical tournament schedule runs January to April with practices beginning in November.
What's to be expected with a one-day tournament?
One-day tournaments typically start at 8am and can end as early as 2pm and as late as 8pm. These are usually admission-free and hosted at local colleges, high schools, and smaller sports complexes. Many tournaments only accept 4-8 teams per division.
What's to be expected with multi-day tournaments?
Each multi-day tournament is unique, but typically they host 100 or more teams, providing a dynamic and competitive atmosphere for players and spectators alike. Admission fees for these tournaments can range from $15 to $50 per person, depending on the event’s scale and amenities. Participants should plan to cover their travel and hotel expenses, as tournaments often occur in different cities or regions. It’s essential to note that some tournaments operate under a stay-to-play policy, requiring participating teams to book accommodations through designated tournament hotels to maintain eligibility to compete.
Why do players also work events?
Players are required to work at least 1 game for opposing teams. Players will take short online classes to earn their certificates in various reffing positions such as: R1, R2, libero Tracking, sideline judge, scorekeeping, and stat tracking.
Are your coaches paid?
Our coaches are not paid for their services. Instead, they are passionate and experienced individuals who volunteer their time to support our athletes. Despite not receiving monetary compensation, they bring a wealth of expertise and dedication to their roles, serving as mentors and role models for our players. Their commitment is instrumental in fostering a positive and enriching environment for our club members.
Many of our coaches also coach at our local area high schools.
If my player made a team once, are they guaranteed to make it next season?
No. Each season is treated as a fresh start with a new team. Your player must earn their spot on an Open team yearly.
Can my player move up?
Yes. Your player may try out for Club and make Open (and vice versa).
